Sergio Pérez heads to Miami with a special challenge: racing on American soil with Cadillac, in what already feels like a symbolic event for the team. The Mexican driver described a unique atmosphere, fueled both by the local crowd and by Florida's large Latino community.
On the racing front, Sergio Pérez believes Cadillac is making progress every weekend. Miami, however, will be a more revealing test, as the team is introducing a major package of upgrades, as are many of the other teams. For him, the success of the weekend will be measured simply: doing better than at Suzuka.
The Mexican also welcomed the regulatory adjustments decided upon ahead of Miami. Following Ollie Bearman's crash at Suzuka, he felt urgent action was needed for safety reasons. Pérez particularly appreciates the fact that drivers, teams, the FIA, and F1 worked together to improve the situation. He remains cautious, however: only track time under real conditions will allow for an assessment of these changes' impact.
Stormy weather on Sunday?
The weather could also come into play. Pérez indicated that a meeting with the FIA was scheduled to assess the scenario for Sunday, as the forecast looked concerning and currently points to a high risk of thunderstorms. If that's the case, a U.S. law could force the Grand Prix to be suspended. And in Miami, when it rains, it rarely does so lightly.
