Only a privileged few have mastered the streets of Monaco: just 36 drivers have won there, and 14 of them have done so more than once.
Monaco remains the most unforgiving circuit in the sport, where a single mistake can ruin an entire season's work. As the circuit winds through the narrow streets of the principality, only a handful of drivers have mastered it enough to climb to the top step of the podium.
Since the first race in 1950, only 36 different names have claimed victory. The first was five-time world champion Juan Manuel Fangio, who also returned to win in 1957. Of those 36 drivers, 14 have won the trophy more than once, but only four have reached the elite level of four or more wins: Graham Hill (five wins, earning him the nickname “Mister Monaco”), Alain Prost (four), Ayrton Senna (a record six), and Michael Schumacher (five). The only active driver close to this select circle is Lewis Hamilton, who has three wins in Monaco. Senna also holds the longest streak of consecutive wins on the street circuit, which he conquered five years in a row from 1989 to 1993, ahead of Hill, Prost, and Nico Rosberg, who each won three consecutive victories.
Monaco has been the scene of the first Grand Prix victory for nine drivers: Fangio (1950), Maurice Trintignant (1955), Jack Brabham (1959), Denny Hulme (1967), Jean-Pierre Beltoise (1972), Patrick Depailler (1978), Riccardo Patrese (1982), Olivier Panis (1996), and Jarno Trulli (2004).
