Felipe Massa announced that he would retire from Formula 1 at the end of the season, choosing the Italian Grand Prix to make the announcement, a fitting tribute for a driver whose career has always been full of emotion.

It is difficult to describe the emotional rollercoaster that has marked Felipe Massa's Formula 1 career. The Brazilian's record is impressive for a driver who has spent most of his career as a number two, but the world title has always eluded him. However, he did get a taste of ultimate victory for a brief moment. All fans remember the chaotic final lap of the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix, contested in appalling weather conditions, when Lewis Hamilton won his first championship. Hamilton clinched the title by overtaking Timo Glock's Toyota in the final corner of the last lap, earning just enough points to stay ahead. Seconds earlier, Massa had crossed the finish line in first place in his Ferrari, convinced he had won the championship, unaware of Hamilton's last-minute comeback. On the podium, Massa, with tears in his eyes, held up the winner's cup, dedicating it to his family, while the disappointment was clear in his eyes: he would never have another chance to become champion.

The following year was even darker. During practice for the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix, Massa was involved in a terrible accident that prevented him from racing for an entire season. He made his comeback at the 2010 German Grand Prix, leading the race until Ferrari ordered him to let his teammate Fernando Alonso pass, thus depriving him of a symbolic victory.

His career took a new turn with Williams, who signed him for 2014, still believing in his talent and motivation. That season, he took pole position at the Austrian Grand Prix, a clear sign that he was back in form.

With his head held high and confident in his abilities, the São Paulo native announced his departure from Formula 1 at the end of the season. From his debut with Sauber in 2002 to his last race, Massa will be remembered as a driver who lived his sport to the fullest, passionate, resilient, and undeniably talented.
