Arvid Lindblad impresses in his F1 debut: “I’m not going to just follow along”
In his very first Formula 1 Grand Prix, Arvid Lindblad not only finished the race, he scored points. Finishing eighth in Melbourne, the 18-year-old Briton delivered a solid and daring performance, mixing it with the most experienced drivers on the grid without any complexes.
In a race marked by numerous battles and several neutralizations, Arvid Lindblad delivered one of the most remarkable performances of the weekend in Melbourne. In his Formula 1 debut, the young Racing Bulls driver finished eighth, scoring four points in his first appearance in the discipline.
This result is all the more impressive given that the Brit is only 18 years old and was competing against an F1 field in race conditions for the first time. Remember that he is the only rookie this year.
“I'm honestly lost for words. Starting my first weekend in F1 was already very exciting. It's something I've been waiting for my whole life,” he said after the race.
An already very solid rookie
Throughout the Australian weekend, Lindblad showed that he wasn't there just to learn in the shadows. The rookie regularly outperformed his teammate Liam Lawson, only conceding the advantage in Q3.
In the race, he found himself in the thick of the battle with several top teams, including Mercedes, Ferrari, and McLaren, without ever buckling under the pressure.
“The race was completely crazy. At one point I think I was even third, it was insane.”
The young driver explains that he sought to exploit his car's potential to the maximum in every session over the weekend.
“I tried to get everything I could out of the car in every session. I didn't make any mistakes.”
A first demonstration
Beyond the result, Lindblad made a lasting impression with his attitude on the track, battling wheel-to-wheel with much more experienced drivers.
“I have a lot of respect for experienced drivers, but I'm not going to just follow them around. I think I showed that right from the start.”
The Brit also acknowledges that the Australian race was particularly intense. “It was a completely crazy race. I'm extremely happy and very grateful to the whole team for giving me a car that can compete.”
A very promising start
In a highly competitive field, several drivers shone in Melbourne. Oliver Bearman led the midfield to seventh place, while Gabriel Bortoleto also scored points for Audi's debut.
But Lindblad's performance remains one of the most memorable: scoring points in his first F1 race is a rare feat, even more so at the age of 18. “I showed a little bit of what I came here to do.” Satisfied with his first weekend, the young driver is already looking ahead to the rest of the championship. “I'm very happy with this weekend and I can't wait to be in China.”
A solid first Grand Prix for Lindblad, who has already proven that he will be a force to be reckoned with in the field this season.
