Max Verstappen claimed his 14th victory of the year in Mexico, putting him at the top of the list of drivers in a single season, although this performance must be put into perspective.

Max Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel are now relegated to the background, while Max Verstappen adds another line to his list of achievements. After the Mexican Grand Prix, the Dutch driver became the most successful competitor in a single season, claiming his 14th victory and surpassing both Germans in the record books. This unprecedented achievement highlights the dominance of Verstappen and his Red Bull throughout the 2022 season.

To put this performance into context, Verstappen has achieved 14 victories after 20 races. Vettel's record was 13 victories in 19 starts, while Schumacher achieved the same total in just 18 Grand Prix races. Currently, the Dutchman is ahead of both drivers in terms of number of victories and percentage of victories for the season. To further cement his record, he will need to win the last two races, in Brazil and Abu Dhabi, which would bring his win ratio to 72.7% with 16 wins, arguably making 2022 the most dominant season in Formula 1 history.

The ongoing controversy over budget caps can be put aside for now; even a modest advantage of $2 million would not be enough to explain everything. A quick comparison with his teammate Sergio Pérez, who is far from being a slow driver, highlights just how extraordinary Verstappen's performance has been.
